@mjtsai I have the same problem any time the Time Machine drive isn't significantly bigger than main drive. Hard when your main drive is 3G.
No matter the drive or type type, or OS version, Time Machine always seems to get into a state where it “Couldn’t create backup directory.”

@mjtsai Yup. I just have never had it work for that situation. It seems optimized for full system backups only. -
@ClarkGoble I started using Time Machine with just a few folders because it kept failing for full system backups. :-(

@vjbridd I don’t understand why, but across various Macs and destinations it has never worked reliably for me. Fortunately I have Arq now. -
@mjtsai Arq looks quite good! I can see that being very beneficial to me alongside my local backup
