      @buzz @rentzsch @dwineman @edgecasesshow Overall a fan of ARC, working on other peoples' code. Reduces crashes, marginally increases leaks.

      @wooster @rentzsch @dwineman Yeah, I guess it's a necessary concession to the lowest common denominator reality of Cocoa programming today.

      @buzz @wooster @rentzsch @dwineman That seems too blankety. I know what I’m doing, and I like ARC a lot:

      @cbowns Done arguing about this on Twitter. I'm going to write something about it.

      @buzz @cbowns Looking forward to this (and @rentzsch's podcast). Any argument against ARC is going to have to be _incredibly_ compelling.

      @schwa @cbowns @mronge not surprised you like+use ARC — it was designed for us

      @rentzsch Have you used ARC in anger yet? Aren’t you still on Xcode 3 (or did I imagine hearing that on your podcast?)

    9. rentzsch ‏@rentzsch 11 Jul 2012

      @schwa I’ve only used ARC for test projects. Started a new project a couple of months ago and decided against it.

      @rentzsch That strikes as bizarre. The gains far outweigh the costs of ARC in mind. Not even close. Looking forward to your podcast.

      @schwa @rentzsch I like Arc in theory, but every once in a while I read about bugs in the compiler or headers. No surprises with R&R.

          @mjtsai @schwa yeah, I feel ARC doesn’t buy pros much and I was very content to let others catch the arrows in the back this time around

          @rentzsch @mjtsai @schwa Agreed. I learned my lesson adopting GC in 10.5. Let others work out bugs in new memory management technologies.

          @c_had @rentzsch @schwa I look forward to using Arc once it’s clear that the bugs have been fixed.

          @mjtsai @c_had @rentzsch That seems to be today. And to be honest - I’ve not encountered a single ARC bug caused by the compiler.

        7. Michael Tsai ‏@mjtsai 11 Jul 2012

          @schwa @c_had @rentzsch Also, using Arc would mean fully committing to Xcode 4, which still seems to be crashier than 3.

          @mjtsai @schwa @rentzsch No R/R surprises with MRC? Optimist. Xcode 4.4 fixes the compiler bugs - I know of none remaining, anyway.

          @gparker @schwa @rentzsch Pragmatism. I can’t remember the last time I had a bug due to MRC (that wasn’t due to a Cocoa framework bug).
