The Supreme Court's first opinion of the day is a unanimous decision by Amy Coney Barrett dismissing Florida's challenge to Georgia's alleged overconsumption of water in the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin. https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/20pdf/22o142_m648.pdf …

Barrett: "Florida has not proved by clear and convincing evidence that the collapse of its oyster fisheries was caused by Georgia’s overconsumption." As a former Florida man, I should be sad about this, but Barrett's opinion is pretty persuasive. There will be more decisions!

In today's second ruling, the Supreme Court unanimously upholds the Trump FCC's decision to scrap rules that "promote competition, localism, or viewpoint diversity." The plaintiffs said this move will harm minority and female ownership. Kavanaugh writes. https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/20pdf/19-1231_i425.pdf …

Thomas writes separately to assert that the FCC has absolutely no obligation to promote minority and female ownership of radio stations, television stations, and newspapers, and to bash the lower court for saying it did. There will be more opinion(s)! https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/20pdf/19-1231_i425.pdf …pic.twitter.com/4vVqdquZbx

Since Barrett and Kavanaugh wrote today's first two opinions, the next opinion(s) could come from anyone but Barrett, since SCOTUS releases decision in order of seniority (the chief justice is always the most senior).

Anyway, it's Sam Alito's birthday! Happy 71st birthday, Justice Alito. Did you know that Clarence Thomas is less than two years older than Alito, even though Thomas took his seat in 1991 and Alito took his seat in 2006? Appointing young judges: It really pays off!
