I oppose all violence against government officials. But proponents of the insurrectionist theory of the Second Amendment do not. They argue that we have a right to bear arms so we can violently revolt against an oppressive state if necessary. But who decides when it's necessary?

Proponents of the insurrectionist theory of the Second Amendment (including many Republican lawmakers) should explain why Portland's violent protesters are not simply vindicating their right to bear arms by rising up against what they deem to be a tyrannical police force.

Conservatives don't view anyone fighting for a cause that does not advance one of their core beliefs to be a valid insurrectionist. They see the current protests as an invading enemy against their beliefs, and the current officials as doing God's work.

You can have your attempt at armed revolution. Have at it. Doesn't mean we have to agree with the cause. It's not that complicated.
