    I think they do give a damn, for what it's worth—some more than others. But they're blundering because they've accidentally thrust themselves into a role they never wanted and weren't prepared for.

    Joking aside, it’s hard to untangle what kind of process would lead to this happening, when a woman reporting dick pics faces demands for her photo id.

    They take all claims as equal. To reiterate, no modern culture of ‘testable claim’. It’s down to two individuals from ‘opposing sides’ to debate it out. And if one ‘side’ has the stronger identity politics behind it, that’s the one the producers and editors end up in thrall to.

    A staggeringly good thread on the demise of the sceptical movement and growth of belief-as-identity.

    A thread. Ten years ago, critical thinking peaked. The organised skepticism movement was successfully imported from USA to UK (mainly by me) and the UK media was getting pretty good at not giving platforms to quacks.

    To say my thread yesterday has resulted in an outpouring of sign-focused resentment is an understatement. Now spreading into buses:

    So it's too late to mention London bus timetables that scroll through the next 20 buses? If you miss 1-3 it takes 2 minutes going through buses 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-15, 16-18 & 19-20. At which point your bus has sailed past as you're too busy staring at the bus information sign

    Both of our biggest political parties each has a streak of toxic racism through it. No justification for ifs, buts or whatabouteries: neither party has any excuse not to tackle its own issues.

    You might think, with the Tories trying to shake off Islamophobia accusations, a potential leadership candidate would try to avoid this type of language. But you'd be wrong.
