I wrote up a few thoughts about what a free software movement without RMS should look like: https://mjg59.dreamwidth.org/52587.html

This isn't the time to look for a natural leader to replace RMS. This is the time to rebuild the movement into what it always should have been - one where we take our own responsibility for shaping the spread of free software.

RMS is in no way a leader, just someone whose position resonates with majority of free software contributors. He can’t tell me what to do, and I’m free to use a non-FSF license for my code.

I'd even go as far as to say his position is starting to resonate less and less, considering the drama that plagues much of the free/libre software movement is so often generated from FSF fanatics. Part of why I avoid those circles entirely - too toxic, and not just with RMS/GNU.

I mean this sincerely-why is FSM of any value? Isn't free software (not Free Software) value only unto each project's own merits and scale of distribution? What's the nature of the political movement, to summarize individual's rights as declared values of a leaderless committee?
