I am starting to think that all those people with those strong opinions don't have the slightest idea what RCTs and meta analysis actually are, what purpose they have and how they are conducted.

In area like medicine where the collection of results is often by necessity. It’s particularly vulnerable to garbage in/ etc. in some fields controlled careful aggregate results is an improvement.
