@miwanicki I would be interested which of the "numerous RBFs" didn't work, and why 12-coeff RBF did work. Related to Spherical Quadrature?
I was really hoping to find a locally supported functions that would produce a good reconstruction with only 3 coeffs (verts of tri)

Tried tons of different RBFs, tried dodecahedron with those RBFs, tried some wacky interpolation schemes (Wachspress) - wasnt happy with any
