You can be like Arjun! His brilliant app allows parents to track their children’s location and safety on school buses. Hear from other young inventors who are using their own apps to make a difference in their communities.

Arjun wrote his first computer program when he was eleven years old…One afternoon, Arjun’s bus was late dropping him off after school because of heavy rains. When he finally got home, he saw that his parents were panicked. They hadn’t known where he was or when he’d be returning. The experience gave Arjun an idea: What if there was an app that allowed parents to track their children’s location on a school bus?

Become an app inventor like Vanessa! The Tag It app, created by the EPA Chica Squad, allows users to take pics of vandalized areas and organize cleanups. With this guide, young dreamers can become inventors with real-world impact.

Vanessa Tostado was introduced to coding in high school… .Along with three other girls from East Palo Alto, California—Ashley Davis, Margarita Tenisi, and Rosie Valencia—Vanessa created an app called Tag It, which encourages users to take pictures of vandalized areas and organize cleanups. You can become an app inventor just like siblings Ice and Bethany! This guide teaches anyone to design and publish their own apps—no experience necessary!—and introduces young app creators from around the world.

Designed image with 2 siblings. Text reads: Ice: “What can we do during this pandemic?” we pondered. One afternoon, I scrolled through the App Inventor website—they had announced a monthly Coronavirus App Challenge! Bethany: That same night we brainstormed some concepts for the challenge… Why not create an app with games to defeat virtual viruses? That would be fun to make and also raise users’ awareness of hygiene!
