Every action is either moving you towards or away from an outcome. When working towards a desired outcome, try keeping score. For instance, if you are trying to eat better. First define the terms, and then keep a score, where a positive meal equals +1 and a negative meal -1.

This has the benefit of creating a positive feedback loop. It will also stop you from having a total derailment should you incur one negative.

Replying to @realmalone
Impersonal metrics systematically organized require that you shift your value priorities to align. If not, you can't maintain. You will stop valuing it sooner or later and intuition will have free reign to jump in with a different possibility.

E.g. the outcome must have a meaning that supersedes all other alternatives. An objective metric is only valuable as long as it serves a meaningful purpose. Then you can suppress the Intuitive tendency for exploring possibilities and refine what is currently working.
