2/ The problem is that whatever you are, it is completely unpredictable. So how can any culture optimize for it in order to harness it? No one can show you, tell you, help you on how to be you. You either find out for yourself or imitate others, or an ideal, or a standard.

3/ That's the contradiction I see, so in my view any such attempt is naive and misguided. Because ultimately, it is not culture that can or is responsible for creating individuals but individuals who can and are responsible for creating culture.

I am not saying it is black and white. Cultural conditioning exists and is inescapable. The question was whether there can be some kind which can preserve individuality. That is demonstrably false, as it is a contradiction in terms.
