Most people live in two states - regret about the past and anxiety about the future. Small children have no concept of either. Always immersed in the present moment, and are therefore the happiest beings of all

J Krishnamurti talks about the first and last freedoms. The first freedom is to exit that undivided world to live as a "normal" human. The last freedom is turning back to reclaim the undivided state. The former happens to most; the latter a few.

Do you believe there is a way to systematically harness that natural tendency in a large scale culture so as to produce confident, curious, and creative adults?

I prefer to think of small children as voracious data gathering and classification engines, with a largely bolted on slap dash verification process consisting of parents and caregivers.

Its beautiful to watch, experience and to help them stay in that window. Our jobs as parents is to make that window as large as possible and to create windows where we as adults can get enjoy this experience to.
