My Dinner with Andre is a brilliant, prescient film. It took a second viewing to appreciate the script's undercurrent of irony that exposes Andre's brand of faulty idealism for what it really is: a desperate, confused condemnation of the very reality that allows for it.

Ultimately it is Andre's idealism—the rejection of the mind and the known in favor of knowing oneself—that proves the superior attitude, even when irrational or misguided. Wally simply resigns to perform life from memory, pursuing the only comfort and security he's ever known.
