Stoicism is a philosophy of action; it aids one to discern properly in order for one to act virtuously. I object to Stoicism being sold as an attitude enhancer, as a productivity boost, as mindset medicine. Stoicism is about establishing a truer way of relating with reality, whether it be agreeable or disagreeable; not a way to ward off or rationalize the disagreeable parts.

There is no virtue without responsibility, and if either of those were stress-free, everyone would be doing it. The fact that reality does not conform to our preferences is precisely what necessitates both.
