_The Guru Papers_ is a giant sprawling mess of a braindump, but has numerous insights into diverse psychological topics (mostly having nothing to do with gurus). I recommend it!https://meaningness.com/metablog/guru-papers-monism-control …

Speaking of braindumps, it would be awesome to get the Lost Manuscripts of Control. Any strategies for this? Looks like http://joeldiana.com is down as of mid-2017...

Yeah, I had the same thought! I spent some time scouring the web a year or two ago and turned up some bits but not much. Maybe a pilgrimage to implore the gurus for their wisdom is in order :)

Guru relationships are constructed to be basically induced bipolar disorder. They can only be at absolute trust and absolute betrayal, with no room for the more complex/complete kind based on qualified, context-sensitive trust. This is why I was never even remotely susceptible.

That’s pretty much what the book says, yes

But the title is misleading; it’s mostly not about gurus, but about how other malign interpersonal dynamics rest on the same wrong ideas about meaningness. Guru pathology is just where they happened to start

Gary recommended me this book a couple months back - great read, although the authors have their own agenda which was slightly disheartening. Some great stories in it.
