Πνεύμα is pronounced with the ύ as the "v" in "vat" so it is not silent, however it must bear some relation to its Hebrew counterpart.

"Ψυχή" is the Christian soul, while πνέυμα is closer to spirit, the disembodied consciousness of the Greek dodecatheon, pagan tradition etc.
