I actually think it's possible to have desires without expectations. My original tweet uses the shortform "w/o"
That is why the Buddha spoke of cutting the root of craving. I might like to think there is good desire, but that does not make it true.

You might be confusing desire with the non-volitional action which directs you. That is a whole different thing.
-
The difference is that desire is a conceptual state created in the mind, while that which arises as a movement is present, immediate.
-
It's difficult to talk about this and is a subtle difference, you are probably referring to that. It is not desire. It's Life.

Here's my crazy thought: I also don't think craving and desire are the same thing.
-
Perhaps, but at the end of the day we are debating terms and states that can be defined, while Life itself cannot be defined.
-
Fair point. I grant you that there are things that cannot be defined perfectly yes.
-
I appreciate the comments and think I can see what you are pointing to, and it is useful to distinguish these things conceptually.
-
You replying helps me think too. Writing helps me to think. I rather get it wrong at first and then think right than never wonder at all.
-
I respect that more than a few words can express. A bow to you, sir.
-
Hahaha thanks. Of course I rather never be wrong at all but then that's a fool's dream. That desire is my aversion talking. Heh
