I actually think it's possible to have desires without expectations. My original tweet uses the shortform "w/o"
I misread that, apologies. Expectations are just a consequence of desire, it doesn't exist without it.

That is why the Buddha spoke of cutting the root of craving. I might like to think there is good desire, but that does not make it true.

You might be confusing desire with the non-volitional action which directs you. That is a whole different thing.

The difference is that desire is a conceptual state created in the mind, while that which arises as a movement is present, immediate.

It's difficult to talk about this and is a subtle difference, you are probably referring to that. It is not desire. It's Life.

I have thought abt this for a long time and of course I might change my mind in future but yes expectations cannot exist without desire.

By the way, I have used the original translation, in which "craving" is to be understood as synonymous with "desire"..
