People are made to feel ashamed and doubtful of their inner voice of values in a world that only prizes and rewards objective achievement and success. Then it gets worse because they tell you your problem is your mindset, or your poor habits, or lack of discipline.

This is the cancer on Silicon Valley. Everyone reads the same books by the same authors, listen to the same thought leaders (read: pied pipers), and measure self-value by VC/IPO valuation. Their life becomes a small set of metrics and is self-validated as such.

I would argue Tim Ferriss is Patient Zero -- everyone here read 4 Hour Workweek and thought he was a genius. Not a single person works 4 hours though, 10+ years later.

He knew it himself, at least for the last few years. His values were not aligning, and to his credit, he acknwoledged them.
