Fun fact: "To be entertained" and "to be distracted" are synonymous in modern Greek (διασκεδάζω) while the etymology of the word (anc. greek διασκεδάννυμι) means to scatter oneself, to dissipate, to dilute. Same with French divertissement – (divertere, ‘turn in separate ways’.)

makes sense since originally what we call today art were devices to aid in waking up, while what we call art and entertainment has a lot more to do with putting us back to sleep in the sense of how much of your awareness is in the here and now for how much of the day
