Your reasoning is circular; "by virtue of societies adapting they are adaptable". Your conclusion is contained in the premises in other words. Societies do break down and vanish; I need not mention examples. They reorganize around few antifragile individuals.

Societies are composed of individuals. There is a feedback loop between 'top-down' and 'bottom-up,' i.e. society shapes individuals as much as individuals shape society.
