It is perhaps the most difficult thing for a human being to accept that nothing is permanent in life; not even life itself. Everything must and does end. But it is precisely because it ends that anything is real. That which knows no end was never real in the first place.

Regardless of marriage, everything changes, individuals change, and so does their relating. The idea of marriage can create a simulacrum of relating, a frame of reference, but it cannot inspire genuine desire to do so; that is up to the individuals themselves.

And so relating itself is what is real. And that shifts and changes, it dies and is reborn within the individuals themselves. In love and true relating there are no guarantees, because none of these can exist without freedom and individuality.
