! I now have 3 of your tracks in my exercise classes and I'm trying to shoehorn more in! Your music brings this fat fitness instructor LIFE! πππ
Drove my powerchair by a group of teenagers (who were old enough to know better) and they all shouted the South Park reference/character βTimmyβ at me. Was not fun, I feel awful and vulnerable. I am a person, you do not get to shout at me in the street.

Personal trainers with zero accredited nutritional qualifications putting clients on 1200 calorie diets or telling them to cut carbs.. but no one wants to acknowledge the disorder that the fitness industry often promotes
Folks be having ALL the smoke for Fat people βpromoting obesityβ but when It comes to fit people ACTUALLY promoting eating disordersβ¦itβs quiet. Whereβs the public outrage on this real life issue?!
Being a Tory is not a protected characteristic. It is a choice, unlike race, sex, gender, disability, etc. if you donβt want to be considered detestable, you can identify right out of Conservatism and stop backing detestable people, policies and ideas. #IStandWithNicolaSturgeon
FYI the point of dismantling weight stigma in healthcare is not to "be body positive" it's to literally save the lives of the individuals consistently being harmed by neglection of care and marginalization
Happy World CP Day! I have read a few messages which describe people as βsufferingβ from cerebral palsy. I hate this. I DELIGHT in having CP. I write books, I climb mountains, and I smash every archaic, ableist preconception of what it means to have CP out of the water. CHEERS!
Imagine being in a position where you get your kicks from calling a helpline and abusing volunteers... I'm so disgusted by the way this incredible charity is being treated. They literally save lives. πππ
Due to intolerable abuse, we have made the decision to close the helpline and webchat services for the rest of today and tomorrow. Next week, to enable us to take all volunteers off the rota, we will reduce hours to 9am to 6pm only.
Wait, waitβ¦ I just heard that there are NO women signing up on the conservative dating app βThe Right Stuffβ.
Itβs ALL dudes.
And they are NOT happy.

BREAKING: A petition demanding a general election has been signed by 4 times as many people as voted for Liz Truss to become prime minister. Needless to say it will be completely ignored because we don't live in a real democracy x
Iβve got a very niche book request: Iβm trying to find the name/author of a childrenβs book I vaguely remember reading in the school library in the 90s. I think it was about a princess, and a series of suitors trying to impress her so they could marry her? One of them messed his
Folks, we're struggling to heat our homes, feed ourselves and now we've found out that many of us won't be able to pay our mortgages within the next few months. Meanwhile rich folks are profiting from the pandemic (and we all know the two are related). It's OK to not be OK
Living in a society that normalises disordered eating and over exercise makes it 100 times harder to find any sort of recovery (whatever that word means for you).
Person: βIβm really struggling and thinking about suicideβ
Society: βTheyβre not serious, just attention seeking, itβll be okayβ
Person: *dies by suicide*
Society: βOMG why didnβt they reach out?! mental health matters!β
Why do we only care when lives are lost?
Talk to your kids about intrusive thoughts. Theyβre more common than you may realize, and they can be disturbing and scary. Kids donβt know what they are, and they arenβt likely to share they are having them. I cannot even begin to tell you the relief upon learning what they are-
Charles Dickens wrote a novel almost 200 years ago where one of the central motivating factors was the incomprehensible cruelty of attitudes like this.
corporate profits are the highest in decades, weird how that doesn't factor into the inflation discourse but ordinary people's meager wage increases do

She sat behind this man. She had been attending the Grace Hopper Conference all week and was resting her head on her tray table, trying to sleep a bit.
Let me tell you what happened.
People who donβt live with chronic pain cannot understand how much we mask it in order to look βfineβ to the outside world.
So when we say weβre in pain, it means weβre in absolute agony.
10. Finally, remember that I've been a doctor for 20yrs and even though I'm tweeting this, I struggle to advocate for myself IRL. It's hard. It takes practice. You are not alone. But also, you got this π
If you find yourself in this situation, the idea is that you can hand your phone over/print out stuff before you get there. Make the doctor do the work. There's nothing wrong with freezing up or becoming tearful - this is a normal response in stressful situations.
9. Remember that doctors hold an incredible amount of power over you and that fearing doctors is normal for fat folks. You may struggle with some/all of the above. That's why I created http://noweigh.org/for-patients.
There's a section for people who need help advocating for themselves
8. After the appointment, remember to take some time out to process and rest. Chances are you've spent days/weeks in a state if hypervigilence, worrying/fixating on the appointment and fearing the outcome. You need to take some time to decompress, however works best for you
7. If your doctor is denying you an investigation/treatment based on your weight, ask them if they are prepared to document this (including your objections) in your notes. You can then go on to ask them about the complaints procedure. They are obligated to facilitate a complaint
"I've already tried weight loss in the past and it didn't help. What else can we try?"
"I have a history of disordered eating/an eating disorder so intentional weight loss is out of the question. What can I try instead?"
Or you could just say "no thank you, what's next?!!"
6. If they bring weight or weight loss into the conversation, it is helpful to have a few phrases to hand (you can write them down). Here are some useful ones:
"How would you treat a thin person with my symptoms?"
"Assuming weight loss doesn't help or isn't possible, then what?"
5. Once a diagnosis has been made, your doctor is supposed to DISCUSS treatment options with you. They aren't supposed to just tell you what to do. They should be helping you to make an informed choice by giving you all the info you need. If they don't, don't be afraid to ask.
4. Your doctors is supposed to take a history, then examine you (unless not feasible or appropriate), then organise any necessary investigations. If they fail to do any of the above, be prepared to call them on it. Eg. "Aren't you going to examine me?" Or "what about an X-RAY?"
