I've come to the conclusion that the total destruction of sophisticated Asian ideas in the form of yoga, meditation and tantra by westernisation efforts and market capitalism just will not stand. I'm not sure what to do about this insight yet. People are really harming themselves

Would it be accurate to say that confronting truth in all its (frequently ugly) naked glory is a prerequisite for achieving enlightenment, regardless of which tradition is followed? If so, just publicising this might be enough to help people weigh the risks more realistically.

Ah yes, I have usually the word "attain" rather than "achieve" paired with "enlightenment". I can't claim any knowledge regarding enlightenment: until a few weeks ago, I regarded the concept as woo woo. My 'scientific' cultural background confused my awareness. /1

Listening to Vinay's May 2015 podcasts with futurethinkers opened my mind significantly ... I suppose because he aligned enlightenment with truth and the scientific method and choosing to 'work in the world' rather than just teach. /2

Now I'm looking into it and am particularly interested to see where
@leashless goes with his thinking on the topic because I have shit to do in the real world before I die. I feel time ticking away but I'm not quite so blind to what I don't know anymore. Bit of a quandary. /31 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

Well, shit is how it is. I don't understand there to be any metaphysical benefit to enlightement, any more than there is such a benefit from understanding orbital mechanics correctly. You want to know how it works, you can investigate and learn. But *so what*? Life goes on.

I'm forever finding bugs in my mental code. Adjusting them one at a time as I find them (and for so long as I'm aware of them) is the only approach I know at the moment. It seems inefficient and maybe not very effective either. Like killing mosquitos one at a time.

"So what" might apply here too, except my mind persists in wanting to help prevent human extinction, and it seems irresponsible to risk more blindness than necessary in such an endeavour. If enlightenment doesn't improve 'sight', then I agree, there's no point. But if it does..?

If what you want is power, start with magic :-) but, yes, the iron will to deal with The Bad Shit is certainly built by the practices which lead to enlightement. I did Acalanatha as my main practice. As you can see from the mythology it was pretty effective. :-)

Purely out of a RS sort of curiosity - does the Nath Tantra tradition use creation/completion yidam practices in a similar way to Buddhist Vajrayana? I didn't know Acalanatha was also used as a deity in the Nath tradition, although it doesn't come as a surprise.
