Hey Buddhists: an apocalyptic mentality is the nihilist's way of denying dependent co-arising. Like transhumanism, which collapses in the other direction, it's not wisdom, just another egoic avoidance.

Is an apocalyptic world view necessarily fatalistic? The end of this doesn't mean the end of all. Could it not just be a deep acceptance of the nature of reality? I suppose that a true acceptance brings peace where as nihilism leaves one with a deep sense of ennui.

That's kind of what I was getting at, yes. One of Trungpa's apt phrases to describe the bodhisattva's experience of emptiness is "communicating properly." There's a sense of completeness and undefended openness with the situation, as opposed to a withdrawal.

Because you see reality for what it is, you can relate to it properly. Basic sanity as opposed to the indulgence of our neuroses.

‘Basic sanity’ - what a great turn of phrase that is. Complete mad man, but a genius nonetheless.
