Eradication of self depends on there being a self to eradicate. One of those mistaken ideas that really got the Buddha's panties in a bunch.

‘Eradication of self’ is a curious turn of phrase. Where did you get an idea like that? I always got the idea that one trains to let go of self-clinging, such that one doesn’t need to make an object of the self...not to ‘eradicate’ the self. I may have misunderstood, of course

Common theme among seekers. We're told there's no self, so we long for a "no-self experience." The hope is to get so enlightened that we can forever dwell in this wonderful no-self. Understandable, but doesn't lead anywhere, since what we experience as self is itself process.

FWIW, I have never been taught - by several people - there is no self. Only things that are not-self which we cling to, and a ‘self as process’ which is mistaken for a thing.1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -
