In reading Thomas Merton I’m finding that the “mystic” writings of most spiritual traditions are typically the most intuitive and true; particularly the Sufi & Christian mystics. They seem to embrace the Unknown in ways that reveal deeper truths than more traditional paths.

That’s because they’re close enough to the fringe of the religious sphere that they are less driven to define themselves by the identity of the group. Some mystics stay just on the edge, some go too far and get called heretics.
