Just to pop a wee penny in the tin, one famous scholar wrote about a practice of ‘insanity’ (smyon-pa), originating in Indian Vajrayana, whereby one deliberately engages in behaviour which results in fierce rejection and criticism, so that one can purify attachment to approval.
Different to the usual appeal to means, ‘he’s waking us up’ etc. Maybe it has that result for some, but maybe it is intended to result in backlash. The intention is really quite different. I like this idea, but it’s not one I’ve not read/heard since. Anyway, as you were, gents.
