Just signed up for BJJ classes. I've never done anything like this in my life. I did a trial class on Monday and the close contact freaked me out a bit, but there was also something thrilling about learning to throw a 275lb guy over with my hips.

I was going through /r/bjj and found their beginner's FAQ and is says this about rolling with women. This advice seems to be ideologically motivated, (women are equal to men therefore...) can anyone with experience weigh in?pic.twitter.com/p0RPuV9LbC

It isn't ideologically motivated. It's purely practical. Enjoy. good luck. And don't 'spaz out'.

I'm 6" ft 205lbs, so I don't imagine I'll be matched up with many women, right?

Depends on the gym really. All three BJJ gyms I've trained at, nearly everyone trained with nearly everyone. I'm more strict with who I roll with than most people, for injury prevention. If you don't want to get choked out by a woman half your size, you can politely decline

I don't care about being choked out by a woman, but I don't want to get injured if I can help it. I read somewhere that to prevent injury it's better for novices to work with more skilled partners.

sound advice. Always pay attention to a training partner's character, aggression etc - skill is a necessary, but not sufficient factor in risk reduction.
