Will Shastri Ethan Nichtern be there as well? I'd like to book my flight this evening.

I’m being serious - I respect Mr.Horn, who is an excellent Dharma teacher to the best of my knowledge. I am also serious that Lancashire is a dump. I can’t speak for Chagmé

Hm, don't know much about Horn as a person, I know we don't align on politics, and I can't really connect to the teachings I've watched, also some of his material is downright troubling (teaching drugs as Buddhism...) Nichtern's politics are even more unpleasant. Folk seems cool.

‘Teaching drugs as Buddhism’ is a fairly disingenuous summary of Mr.Horn’s discussions of the topic, and portrays a naïveté as to the historical use of psychedelics in various Buddhist traditions. But that said, you clearly have a right to your own opinion.

I don't think it is. It's pretty simple to me: Advocating for drugs as Buddhism (or as anything else) on the internet today is irresponsible and dangerous. He can gesture to history and rationalize it and that's fine, but there's no way to know who's reading these 'teachings'...

Kids could be reading this stuff. Assuming your internet audience is mature, responsible, and discerning enough to know better than to experiment with chemicals is not a good idea. If he wants to teach it, do it in person, and make sure your audience is adult.

Full disclosure: I have a sister who's been an addict for more than half her life. I'm certainly biased in my position.

Sorry to hear that, but that doesn’t justify the logical tenets of your position Matt. I know several multi-decade addicts, very sad, and yet we still need to have adult conversations about the use of psychoactive substances, because they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.

I’m all for adult conversations, there’s no way to ensure you are having a conversation with an adult when you’re on the Internet. That’s my point. I didn’t share my story to justify logic, but to concede I may not be the more rational person on this topic.

That’s fair enough Matt. I respectfully disagree, as we need quality information out there for children who are of the age to be entering such a line of enquiry. You can’t baby proof the world, so we had best keep our adult conversations to a high standard, where possible.

I understand your position. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me on everything, I think it’s vital to learn to understand and dialogue with opposing viewpoints. That’s JBP‘s core message after all :)

Yes addiction can be hell, I haven’t gone too close to investigating my own reactive patterns around my relationship with my sister yet, despite half a decade of practice because it still feels too raw. One day though...
