Unless you're depressed, unpleasant experiences are always less oppressive if you let yourself feel them fully. But doing that takes practice.
I'm not sure the 'unless you're depressed' part is true. I suppose one certainly has to be much more careful - on an individual basis. But nothing shifted depression for me like learning to walk on the emotional texture, like a shaky stair case, reducing emotional viscosity.
