I think this is why it is so important that meditators lay a solid foundation with basic attentional skills before they run off chasing guru stuff and pretending they can practice some of the 'higher' yanas. Etc. No-one I know teaches basic attentional skill better than Shinzen.

When we are triggered, placing awareness on disturbing sensations that are already happening takes a minor attentional pivot. And I agree that this sort of practice increases our capacity to experience intensity. In my experience, the intensity is already there.
