I'm happy that people are starting to question whether valorising different goals should lead to very different trainings. Although, maybe the cognitive frame, cultural orientation, etc, matters a lot.

FWIW, most of my meditative heroes were either a bit mad or didn't care if they were: Jigme Lingpa, Dudjom Lingpa, Ikkyu, Trungpa, Patrul, Khenpo Gangshar, and so on...

I think a big part of instability is due to cognitive dissonance, two cultural spheres quaking each other d/t inability to operate meta-systemically at a sufficient depth. One of the reasons why you see extended dukkha-nana difficulties in lay Theravadins and less so in monastics
