I rarely ask if they study NLP, unless it’s really getting in the way of me understanding what it is they’re trying to get at.

I don’t trust people who use NLP like some bizarre slight of hand trick. What’s weird is that to me I basically can’t understand what they’re saying when they’re trying out their funny techniques - I find that very funny. I just politely ask them to try to rephrase.

So called ‘neuro-linguistic programming’ - people try to use it as a sort of pseudo-hypnosis. It has been debunked by peer-review process as unsuitable for clinical application. Lots of marketing people and bullshit artists like it as a way to manipulate people. It’s gross.
