Contemplative field-notes: You certainly need a teacher to learn mystical practice/s - which means you probably have to engage with some sort of community. Do not allow yourself to get wrapped up w/ those who want to proselytise. Guard your energy for that which matters.

@kenmcleod categories of mystical, religious and therapeutic - and almost all three exist to some extend in all practitioners, and most communities (even heavily concentrated on mysticism) have a bunch of people who are high in the ‘religious’ component. - 3 more replies
