Not sure how to square it, honestly. It doesn't all hang together for me, which is why I got into Chan/Zen, Advaita Vedanta, & Vajrayana.

'actual historical Buddha' is a tricky set of words, at least in so far as the people who are 'too smart' for old Sid are probably just too smart for the textual sources which developed several hundred years after his death....I guess.
