I love you and to me this is super damning and emblematic of a whole class of peeps who are too smart for the actual historical Buddha.
'actual historical Buddha' is a tricky set of words, at least in so far as the people who are 'too smart' for old Sid are probably just too smart for the textual sources which developed several hundred years after his death....I guess.
