I think we can and do know, doesn’t need evaluation. The saving grace is that the self-deception isn’t solid. If it were, if there were no gaps, there is no humour, no rest. Seeing what we’re wrapped up in can be painful, but at least IME it’s sort of bitter-sweet honest vision.

At least in my own practice I’ve noticed this disappointment is almost unavoidable. Avoiding it is a feat of superhuman falseness (can be done) The deception collapses from time to time, which can come with/from disappointment & pain, but it has a dynamic truthfulness to it.
