I understand where this kind of thinking comes from (nobody wants to be told that symptoms which come from trauma = a problem with their personality) but it's possible for people with CPTSD/PTSD to be misdiagnosed with BPD *and* for BPD to exist as its own thing

like I really understand the anger of people (mostly women!) who've suffered from being given a BPD diagnosis when what they needed was trauma therapy but it's so so invalidating (and, frankly, dangerous) to constantly hear that your mental illness isn't a real thing !!

lots of ppl have BPD without experience of trauma. my understanding (the biosocial model) is that it's caused by a genetic predisposition & some kind of invalidating environment, which isn't the same thing as trauma & doesn't mean that everyone w BPD will respond 2 trauma therapy

I look forward to this trauma meme blowing over. Trauma work is good and helpful but humans being human are massively over-inflating the application. I’ve seen at least 5 people claiming autism=trauma
