dishonesty on the guy's part? i think that's probably accurate but it seems to stem from fear rather than a desire to manipulate, which isn't usually what people think of when they hear "dishonest"?
Thats an interesting point, I can see how a lot of people would have that association. As momma banana said, honesty is complicated

It's not fear. It's a desire for optionality and freedom. Upon introspection, I noticed that I only tell girls that I'm super into them and act "nice" when I see them as a backup plan and don't want to get closer to them just yet.
