trying to draw on memories of when i've experienced this i think: seems like he's trying to please you rather than assert his own preferences and boundaries
I feel like it's more a matter of dishonesty than niceness....curious what you think about that?

dishonesty on the guy's part? i think that's probably accurate but it seems to stem from fear rather than a desire to manipulate, which isn't usually what people think of when they hear "dishonest"?
