I actually cried a bit since this tweet. upon further thought I think I only feel the need for regulation post sob when it hasn't been compelty procesed. So I think your bit before about breath sound and movement + riding waves is the answer here

if the process is really complete - which is a high bar and i’ve had trouble hitting it consistently - you should feel *incredible* afterwards, like high on life. it’s a really good sign if you start belly laughing at whatever you just cried about
