As for my thoughts, I never knew the man personally but he has been a source of inspiration and I have a positive connection with some of the people he had a role in training. I don't feel personally driven to resolve or defend his behaviour one way or the other particularly.
From a religious studies perspective there is a lot of scope for discussion of Trungpa re: religion and artistic expression, cultural translation, religious innovation/adaption, institutional authority, etc. I find him thoroughly fascinating, even if he did act like a mad drunk.

thanks for the book suggestion; some hagiography is to be expected i suppose. yes...i find him fascinating too. on the whole, i have very conflicting feelings about him!
