A few people asked for book recommendations — for getting a sense of the general approach of Mahamudra — and this one is my main pick. There are beautiful translations of classical texts, but they aren’t much use without the guidance of a teacher who can give mind instructions.

The whole discussion of how and why a person decides to pursue different religious traditions or practices is interesting, lots of nuance there. I find it hard to reccomend anything relating to meditation because I don’t assume that people will respond to it the same as me.

I don’t even assume that it would be of benefit to someone else. It feels a bit like being asked to recommend a breed of dog - why would I ever assume that someone else would like spaniels as much as I do?

I really liked The Influence of Yogacara on Mahamudra by Traleg Kyabgon There was a certain sniffiness among some western followers of Tibetan Buddhism about him, & also a bit of disapproval about his lifestyle choices, hence his books have been neglected & somewhat forgotten
