Do people not understand that enthusing about how the thing you want to tell them about is the best thing ever and is miraculously wonderfully life changing is actively offputting? Or am I genuinely anomalous in reacting that way?
I wonder how many cool, useful things I've been put off by hearing about them from folks in a convert-proselyte stage.
I've been trying to do a kind of skeptical-but-interested mining for useful concepts on a bunch of stuff recently. e.g. I very nearly noped out of Focusing entirely but decided to persevere through it after the intro to it was basically "Hey my cult is pretty cool, want to join?"
I downplay good tv shows for this very reason
