I read this book. The best autobiography and it resonates with the quote “The psychotic drowns in the same waters in which the mystic swims with delight.”https://twitter.com/Yuanmeng_PAN/status/1151631131806261254 …

潘远梦 added,
So was her brain tumour a factor in the depersonalisation thing, or was that a coincidence?
Also, I’m interested in what you mean by ‘misdiagnosed saint’; do you mean that as a critique towards the medicalisation of what otherwise might be handled in more holistic ways? (I’m thinking of shamanic approaches, culture bound syndromes etc)
She can be considered a siddha in one cultural system, but she is a hopeless patient in another system. We do not know whether her tumor caused the depersonalization symptom, but she did find reconciliation with her horrible experience after adopting another cultural model.
That’s so interesting, especially if she did find reconciliation. This is sort of what I mean when I prattle on about psycho-social reflexivity. Sociocultural contexts are more powerful in shaping experience than we often give them credit.
