I don't know enough about machine learning to know why they're looking at Dzogchen in particular, but there are enough differences between Theravada, Zen & Dzogchen that they all might provide functionally distinct analogies for thinking about problems which are highly ambiguous.
True, but if you're translating Buddhist concepts into code, it certainly seems that having a good foundation in Buddhism but being a great coder would be key. Who doesn't believe a Zen practitioner could learn Dzogchen concepts? Anyway, I guess they have their reasons!
Yes I don't what exactly their reasons or expectations are, and this is way outside my wheelhouse. They may just think 'Dzogchen' sounds cool & interesting for all I know.
