I've owned this book before, and been recommended it often, but have never read it yet. Will do now.
IIRC, there is a lot of Vajrayana influence (Dzogchen in particular, from Trungpa), especially in their discussion of nihilism & ethics. This makes sense now, given the history outlined by David. Weird that I never noticed the connection before.
