to get people to lower their defenses around you, you kinda have to be (respectfully!) semi-indifferent to their defensiveness. actively *trying* to lower their defenses is counter-productive, because that's exactly the kind of behavior/intent they're trying to defend against

it's a sort of non-attachment; being playful in response to changing circumstances. you just want to have a good time, you're not needy or demanding about how other people are. you're happy to let them be themselves while you be you. openness to surprisehttps://twitter.com/visakanv/status/1014472771156434946 …
Visakan Veerasamy added,
Visakan Veerasamy @visakanvTo be playful is not to be trivial or frivolous, or to act as though nothing of consequence will happen. Rather - when we are playful, we relate to each other as free persons - and the relationship is open to surprise. Seriousness = pressing for a specific conclusion. pic.twitter.com/OAyhqyy4YhShow this thread2 replies 0 retweets 14 likesShow this thread

Nice
I agree, playfulness ≠ trivial/frivolous
Rickson Gracie & Marcelo Garcia are amazing examples for that (genius level grapplers).
