A lot of 'adaptive strategies' are picked up socially, or usefully mimicked, or done 'just because'. If every adaptive strategy has to be planned, assessed, practiced in a deliberate way IQ is useful, but the process can be exhausting.

Oh that makes sense, thanks for pointing that out. I had assumed that (non-social) practical difficulties would have more to do with sensory processing and executive functioning, but social learning makes sense.
